Kalilia was first introduced to Belly Dance over 20 years ago. After a few years of dancing, life caught up... family, nursing school (she is an ER nurse), and other life commitments took center stage and drew her away from the Art Form that she loved.
In 2014, she was a little older, but still very in love with the Art Form, she dove back in to classes with Aurel and Amity and took workshops with other well known teachers. Her original love was quickly rekindled and the intensity of that passion grew and led her to explore even more paths in the dance form she adored. After restarting in the more traditional styles of dance such as Oriental , Raks Sharki and Folkloric, she decided to expand her interest and knowledge even further into other styles of belly dance.
She then set about studying Global Caravan Tribal Belly Dance and thus began her journey into teacher certification with its founder, Paulette Rees-Denis. Still a lover of the more traditional styles of belly dance, Kalilia began exploring performance to live music with some of the best known musicians in the New England belly dance realm. She continued training with local teachers and also began training with Keti Sharif to earn her teacher certification in the A to Z Egyptian Oriental Technique. She also began studying Fat Chance Belly Dance to broaden her Tribal knowledge. During this time she developed a deep affection for the addition of theatrical aspects to her dance, and began exploring this area and adding it to some performances.
Kalilia's most recent adventure in belly dance is with the addition of the incredible Fly Fusion style to her repertoire, which was founded by Violet Kind. This cue-driven fusion format, with it snaky moves and original stylings, quickly became another area of passion for Kalilia. She recently achieved her Foundation Teacher Certification in 2021. She continues to study this unique style and its advanced moves to expand her dance knowledge.
Throughout all her studies and adventures into various styles of belly dance, she has held one thing clear in her heart...belly dance should be available to ALL, regardless of age , race , size, shape, or gender. Each style of dance allows the dancer unique ways to explore the power within their own being. Kalilia strives to empower her students with the knowledge of how beautiful they are in their own bodies.
Dance is an individual journey, but that journey becomes so much more enriching when you have others walking beside you, sharing your failures and triumphs, while encouraging and validating that journey.
